Student Voice

The aim of Student Voice in Amery Hill is to empower our students to express their views and opinions on their own educational journey. It provides them with a platform to reflect on and improve the school experience for the whole Amery Hill community and beyond.  Our goal is for our students to become global citizens in the future. Student Parliament consists of six Student Ambassadors from Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 and an Ambassador from each tutor group in Year 7.

Student Ambassadors have been working hard over the course of this year representing the student community of Amery Hill. Students have been busy with several events including the Winter Fayre. The student community had asked for more opportunities to get together as year groups and the Winter Fayre was an opportunity to do this and to support charities who help families over the Christmas period.

We have begun to replace some of the aging photos around the school with more modern alternatives and the plans to rejuvenate some of the outdoor spaces are progressing well.

Some of the groups under the Student Voice umbrella are also making good progress on various projects.

Prism
The student LGBT+ group have joined forces with the charity ‘Just Like Us’, who are providing us with resources and training for our student leaders. Prism members delivered an assembly on LGBT+ trailblazers during LGBT History Month.

Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) Ambassadors
As a ‘Rights Aware’ school and having demonstrated our school’s commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, our Ambassadors have been working on a number of initiatives this year and are working towards the Gold Award: ‘Rights Respecting’. Our Ambassadors have been actively involved in the OutRight Campaign which focuses on children’s right to the best possible health (Article 24), all around the world. The RRSA Ambassadors are looking forward to signing up to the next campaign for September 2023.

Eco-Union
Eco-Union have been meeting every week this academic year to both enjoy time together watching recent documentaries and to tackle head on a variety of things including: surveying the whole school to ensure every room has the appropriate waste collection facilities, and we are now acting on the results of this; raising whole school engagement through organising 'Earth Day' activities and assemblies; going through the renewal process of our Green Flag award; visiting and continuing to engage with the Gilbert White Museum. A number of our members also attended a county wide conference at the start of the year helping us to learn more, make links with other schools and share ideas.
