Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)
What is DofE all about?
DofE is a voluntary, personal challenge and is tailored to each individual to reflect their own starting point, abilities, circumstances and interests. You just need to be between 14 and 24.
There are three progressive levels depending on your age - Bronze, Silver and Gold, and you achieve your Award by completing a programme of activities in four sections - Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. If you're going for Gold, there is an additional Residential activity.
Your programme is a personal challenge but is intended to be fun. Along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that, hopefully, will stay with you for the rest of your life. You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition.
DofE enables you to try new activities and develop existing skills. Every section aims to provide something different and that's the fun of it! The aim is for you to enjoy new experiences and discover talents you never knew you had.
At the end you’ll gain an Award which will give you skills, confidence and a view on life that colleges, universities and employers will notice. In addition, you'll get recognised for doing things you want to do (or may even be doing already). There is a warm glow to be gained from making a difference to other people, the community and from being fitter and healthier.
Here at Amery Hill you can complete DofE with your friends, work with Leaders you know and trust and get support from people you see every day.
