Holland Football TourA group of Year 8 boys have returned from their recent football tour to Holland in buoyant mood, being undefeated in all their fixtures. Having organised and completed a number of fundraising initiatives for the tour, including cake sales, running and rowing the distance to Holland and a parents vs. teachers 5-a-side friendly football game, the boys enjoyed training at first class, professional facilities and testing their skills against a number of local teams. This included a convincing win in their first fixture against DWO Zoetermeer and success in a more challenging match against FC Lisse. This final fixture was a much closer game in which the boys found themselves 2-1 down before an inspired second half saw them finish the game victorious, winning 4-2.
Talking about the tour, Trip Leader, Mr Chris Board, commented “This has been a fantastic experience for the boys. The standard of football on display has been superb, as has the team spirit and support the boys have shown each other.”
As well as training and fixtures, the Amery Hill squad also enjoyed a sight-seeing tour on some of the canals in Amsterdam and had a stadium tour at Amsterdam ArenA, home to AFC Ajax Football Club. This was an amazing opportunity for the boys to see the facilities that professional footballers get to use on a daily basis, as well as experiencing walking out onto the pitch via the players’ tunnel and seeing the dressing rooms, used last by the England national football team. We are already planning future PE activities and trips and look forward to offering these experiences to our students.View Article
