House System Unveiled

The new house system has officially been launched and the final preparations are underway to commence the first House Championship in September. There have been some significant changes, moving from the seven-form system to eight forms per year for Years 7 to 10 to accommodate the house system. Excitement, and some trepidation always come with change, but the house system and Championship will form a key thread in the fabric of the Amery Hill School experience.  Close friends are kept together, but the reshuffle opens the doors to working with new people. Now students will be able to pull together as a team both within and across year groups to win the first House Championship, sharing wisdom between the year groups and reach out with greater extent into the community, showcasing the very best of how Amery Hill educates all students for life. Thank you to all staff, students and parents who contributed ideas for the house theme and names.   The chosen theme and names, not only allows us to pay homage to one of the country’s all time greatest literary figures, of immense local significance, but it seems most fitting that our staff and students should indeed be housed in figurative houses. What fine houses they are: Hartfield. Mansfield. Northanger. Pemberley. What will each of our houses become known for? Which house will win the Sports Day title for the first time?  Which houses will be home to our greatest artists, future leaders, scientists and engineers, prodigious humanitarians, globetrotters, jetsetters and entrepreneurs? Which house will be the first to reach out into the local community? Which will haul the most house points demonstrating the biggest drive for their collective futures? Who will be our first House Captains leading their houses to victory of the first House Cup? All this lay before us, and in September we get to turn the handle on the door of each house and begin discovering just what is inside. PromFest 2021

Amery Hill’s Year 11 students recently celebrated the end of their secondary school education at PromFest 2021 with an evening of enjoyable entertainment. Having endured a torrid couple of years with so many restrictions and disruption, it was the celebration they all deserved. Talking about the Class of 2021, Mr Stephen Mann, Headteacher, commented, “There are some key moments in a school year which create a variety of emotions for all concerned and as we said our goodbyes to Orange Year, this was one such occasion. The cohort of 2021 have had to face far too many disruptions and uncertainties around their education yet we could not feel any prouder in the way they have risen to each challenge and found an inner strength and resilience. They have been a credit to the school and their families and it was a pleasure to welcome them back to Amery Hill for PromFest 2021 and to see them have such a great evening. We wish them every success and happiness for the future.” Unfortunately the students’ original prom at Northbrook House Hotel was a casualty of the Governments’ decision to defer the lifting of restrictions until 19th July and with availability at the hotel limited, the decision was taken to bring the end of year celebration back in house. Progress Leader, Mr Chris Board, added “The arrangements for the evening were led by a small committee with support from parents, students and local businesses helping to organise the event in record time! Our thanks to Alton House Hotel for the loan of their red carpet, Excel FSE for their very generous donation, Sainsbury’s for supplying ingredients to make 200 mocktails for the students on arrival and Daisy Osgood and team for their decorating skills; how the school was transformed!” Mr Board added, “It was lovely that the students could celebrate together; they had a fantastic evening, enjoying entertainment from a professional magician and excellent disco and it is definitely one they will remember.” PromFest Galleries - click hereView Article
