Students win STEM Challenge

Mr Hainsworth and Mr Lancaster took 12 DT students to a STEM challenge day held at Basingstoke College of Technology. The day consisted of students being presented with a task to design and make a structure capable of firing a plastic ball a minimum of 3 metres and land back close to the firing point. Students also had to produce a design portfolio. Facing strong competition from other local schools and colleges, we were delighted not only to win a trophy for best portfolio but also best overall winner, a great achievement!

Celebrating Our House Championship Winners

The House competition has drawn to a close for another year, and what a fantastic year it has been. Students and staff alike have shown incredible dedication, effort, and enthusiasm across every single event and challenge. With the final points now calculated from a spectacular year of sports, creative arts, academic challenges, and community events, we are thrilled to announce Pemberley House as the overall winners of this year’s House Championship. This is a fantastic achievement, reflecting the hard work, participation, and team spirit of every single Pemberley member. A huge thank you to everyone, students and staff alike, who stepped up, had a go, and brought exemplary sportsmanship to our House events this year. School Library

Students at our school are benefiting from a major addition to the library shelves this term, thanks to a generous £500 grant awarded by the Alton Lions Club. The donation has enabled the school to purchase a range of high quality non fiction books, expanding the resources available to students across all year groups. Packed with detailed illustrations, real world stories, and fascinating facts, the new titles cover subjects ranging from science and natural history to world events and technology. The arrival of the new collection coincides with the National Year of Reading 2026, a nationwide campaign led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust. The national initiative encourages young people to "Go All In" on the topics they love through books. While fictional stories are a fundamental part of any school library, educators emphasise that non fiction plays a vital role in developing literacy, particularly for students who do not see themselves as traditional readers. Books built around facts, real life events, or practical mechanics often serve as an ideal entry point to help children build confidence and develop reading habits for pleasure. The new non fiction titles have already been catalogued and are now available for students to borrow during library hours.
