Comic Relief - Red Nose Day

“Let’s do something funny for money!” was the call from Mrs Lee, and we certainly achieved that, in true Amery Hill style! Staff, as usual, went above and beyond, putting themselves out there to entertain and generally ensure a lot of fun was had by all in aid of Comic Relief. There was the House Championship Disco Dance Off, a whole host of games and stalls arranged by our Student Voice Events Team, and of course, a number of staff members were slimed which is always thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, well, almost everyone! British Science Week

British Science Week

It’s British Science Week, and our Year 7 and 8 students have been busy diving into the sub-atomic this week! Our budding scientists swapped the naked eye for the lens, exploring the hidden wonders of the microscopic world. From mastering the perfect focus to spotting living cells in action, they are starting to see the world in a whole new way. Year 9 Students Explore the ‘Rule of Law’ with Hampshire Police

To enrich our ongoing British Values module within the Education for Life curriculum, Year 9 students were visited this week by Liam Davies of Hampshire Police. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the real-world application of the legal system. The highlight of the session saw two of our students lead a Q&A, interviewing Liam on the Rule of Law and its essential role in our society. The year group then engaged in a lively discussion, asking probing questions about policing, justice, and the law. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect their classroom learning with the real world. World Book Day

World Book Day

World Book Day Of course, the term wouldn't be complete without our annual World Book Day celebrations, and the whole school absolutely buzzed with excitement! The library was the hub of the action, hosting a brain-teasing book emoji quiz with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. We also ran popular competitions to design a bookmark and a National Book Token. A massive congratulations to Owen K - his winning bookmark design has been digitally recreated and is being printed for the library. We’ve also got our fingers tightly crossed for Scarlett C; her stunning book token design has been entered into the national competition, and we are so hopeful it wins a stash of tokens for her and Amery Hill! Imaginative Islands

Imaginative Islands

This term, all of Year 7 have been taking part in our annual Island Project Competition, the exciting culmination of an experiential learning unit that explores how religions begin, evolve, and sometimes fade over time. The project is built around an imaginative scenario: humanity has been stranded on a deserted island and must rebuild life from scratch. Throughout the unit, students have investigated how early communities form beliefs, develop rituals, create places of worship, and establish shared values. They then explored how, over hundreds of years, these practices might change - splitting into different denominations, giving rise to new traditions, or even disappearing altogether. Using this framework, students were challenged to think 1,000 years into the future and imagine how their island society would grow, what might remain important to its people, and which customs could be lost or forgotten with time. The creativity shown this year has been outstanding. Students have produced imaginative designs, detailed maps, symbolic artefacts, and thoughtful accounts of their island communities’ histories and belief systems. Every entry demonstrates impressive critical thinking and creativity, making it incredibly difficult to choose an overall winner. The winning project will earn points for the student’s House - though with such strong work across the year group, the judges certainly have a tough decision ahead! View Article

Careers Fair 2025

Year 9 and Year 10 took part in our annual Careers Fair, which was proceeded by a number of careers workshops. Through which they met a wide range of colleges, companies and a university. Students benefitted from workshops delivered by: HSDC Alton College, GW Equine, The Army, OceanWise and Ground and Water. Feedback was extremely positive, and we look forward to growing the event further next year. We were also pleased to welcome parents to a Careers Talk introducing UniFrog, our new careers platform which will support students in future pathways, recording experiences and developing CVs. Restart a Heart Day: Empowering Our Year 9 Students with Life-Saving Skills

At Amery Hill School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, encompassing vital skills that prepare our students for real-world challenges. Recently, our Year 9 students took a significant step in that journey by participating in a hands-on CPR workshop as part of the national Restart a Heart Day initiative. Education for Life The atmosphere in the hall was one of focused energy as students learned the essential techniques required to respond to a cardiac arrest. In an emergency, every second counts, and having the confidence to act can truly be the difference between life and death. From understanding how to assess a situation to mastering the rhythm of chest compressions, our students embraced the opportunity to learn these vital life-saving skills. What was most impressive, however, was the fantastic enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the year group throughout the day. They approached the practical sessions with a level of seriousness and care that reflects the community-minded values we strive for at Amery Hill. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the incredible volunteers from the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS). We are immensely grateful to them for giving up their time to train and inspire our students. Their expertise and encouragement ensured that every student left the workshop feeling more capable and informed. The volunteers shared some brilliant feedback about our students saying, Year 9 students showed fantastic maturity, enthusiasm, and great CPR skills throughout the day. Year 7 Students Celebrate European Day of Languages

Excitement was high at Amery Hill School today as our Year 7 MFL students marked the European Day of Languages with a special lesson dedicated to celebrating linguistic diversity. The day, observed annually across Europe, is a brilliant opportunity to highlight the continent's rich tapestry of languages and encourage lifelong language learning. Our Year 7 cohort certainly rose to the occasion with enthusiasm. Students dived into a fascinating session where they became word detectives, exploring the unexpected origins of common words. They had a go at trying out some new, fun phrases from various European tongues and discussed the profound connection between language and culture. A key part of the lesson focused on understanding why language is a key to unlocking the world. It was brilliant to see the students' genuine interest as they made connections between different cultures and realised just how many European languages share common roots. Our Year 7 students were fantastic - their enthusiasm for exploring shared history and common linguistic heritage was truly infectious. The celebration successfully underscored the importance of learning languages and embracing the diverse cultures that enrich our school community and the wider world. View Article

GCSE Results 2025

We extend our warmest congratulations to the Amery Hill School Class of 2025 for their superb results in their GCSE exams. Their results indicate even better progress than that made in previous years, and fantastic attainment. This year group has impressed us all with their determination, focus and positivity, both in their studies and in the way they have contributed to the wider life of our school. They have consistently supported one another and embodied the kindness and consideration that underpin our strong sense of community, at the heart of Alton – a wonderful legacy to the school. At Amery Hill, our motto is ‘Education for Life’. We aim for every student to leave us as a confident, independent and resilient young adult, ready to thrive in the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. The Class of 2025 have lived out these values, working in partnership with our dedicated staff and with the invaluable encouragement of their families. Their results are a clear reflection of what can be achieved when aspiration is matched with commitment and character. We are incredibly proud of what our students have accomplished. Their success once again highlights the importance of our core values: Independence, Creativity, Active Learning, Resilience and Empathy. With these qualities, the Class of 2025 are extremely well-placed to embrace their next steps – whether that be college, apprenticeships or training – and to do so with confidence and purpose. They started their Amery journeys in uncertain times but now have given themselves certainty about their futures.
