Equipping Amery Hill Students with Essential Life Skills: MyBnk Delivers Financial Literacy Workshop

Today, our students at Amery Hill embarked on a crucial journey into the world of personal finance, thanks to an incredibly engaging financial literacy workshop delivered by the fantastic team at MyBnk! In an increasingly complex financial landscape, empowering young people with the skills to manage their money effectively is more vital than ever. MyBnk, a leading UK charity specialising in financial education for young people, provided our students with a hands-on experience designed to do just that. The workshop was a dynamic and interactive session where students immersed themselves in essential financial concepts. They gained practical knowledge and applied critical skills in areas such as budgeting their income, understanding the importance of saving, and making informed decisions about spending. The MyBnk team fostered an environment that encouraged active participation and real-world application, ensuring the concepts resonated deeply with our students. Learning to make smart money choices from a young age builds a strong foundation for future independence and financial well-being. Hairspray Star Inspires Amery Hill's Performing Arts Students

This week, Amery Hill buzzed with excitement as we welcomed Ben Anderson, an actor from the UK tour of Hairspray. Ben led three incredible workshops for our current and future Dance and Drama stars. Ben guided students through choreographing and performing steps and scenes, sharing vital insights into musical theatre. The sessions included workshopping performances under audition conditions, allowing students to refine their skills in a professional setting. We are really grateful to him for taking a break from his schedule to come and share his incredible energy and musical theatre know-how with us. The Dance Studio was full of students after school reprising the steps they had learnt with Ben, so it's safe to say his visit truly inspired those he worked with!  View Article

Local MP Damian Hinds Visits Amery Hill for Lively Student Interview

This week, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming our local Member of Parliament, Damian Hinds, to Amery Hill. Mr. Hinds was interviewed by our Year 9 students as part of the British Values Module within our 'Education for Life' programme. Giving our students a deeper understanding of public life, representation, and politics is a crucial part of their personal development here at school. This direct engagement with an elected representative offered an invaluable opportunity for our Year 9 students to grasp how parliamentary democracy works and the role of an MP. Our students truly stepped up, showing both keen interest and excellent preparation. They posed some truly insightful questions to Mr. Hinds, covering a range of topics relevant to both local and national issues. This interaction not only enriched their understanding of British values but also encouraged critical thinking and active citizenship. We're incredibly grateful to Damian Hinds for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit Amery Hill and engage so openly with our students. A Bittersweet Farewell: Amery Hill Celebrates Leavers' Day 2025

Leavers' Day 2025 at Amery Hill was, as ever, a truly wonderful day of mixed emotions. It’s a moment we all anticipate, a significant milestone, and a time to reflect on the journey our Year 11 students have shared with us. Mrs. Winch, our dedicated Progress Leader for Year 11 students, perfectly captured the sentiment. "I am so proud of you all right now and very sad to be saying goodbye to you but I'm also relieved that we have all made it through together!" she shared. Her words resonated deeply, acknowledging the immense growth and resilience shown by this cohort. The Class of 2025 has certainly left an indelible mark on Amery Hill. Mrs. Winch highlighted the qualities that define them: "Thank you for the very happy memories, Year 11. Your generous kind hearts, your willingness to have a go and your fantastic sense of humours will never be forgotten." These are the attributes that make a school community thrive, and we are incredibly proud of the individuals they have become. As our Year 11 students now embark on their exciting next chapters, whether in further education, apprenticeships, or employment, we wish them all the very best. We are confident they will carry the spirit of Amery Hill – characterised by kindness, determination, and a good sense of humour – into all their future endeavours. Celebrating Work Experience Week

Last month, our Year 10 students took part in Amery Hill’s first Work Experience Week for many years – and what a success it was! We want to say a huge thank you to all the parents, carers, and employers who supported our students and made these incredible opportunities possible. Our students completed placements in a wide range of industries, including accountancy, kitchen design, broking and underwriting in the London insurance market, engineering, sports coaching, manufacturing, graphic design, air traffic control systems, fire and rescue, publishing, scientific research, and architectural design – to name just a few! Throughout the week, students reflected on what they had learnt: ·  “Getting real life experience” ·  “Meeting new people and learning new skills” ·  “Learning pathways into law” ·  “Insight into how the real world works” ·  “Provided opportunity for interesting experiences” A special thank you also to Queen Mary’s College, who supported the week, giving students the chance to develop their soft skills while working alongside college staff. Students win STEM Challenge

Mr Hainsworth and Mr Lancaster took 12 DT students to a STEM challenge day held at Basingstoke College of Technology. The day consisted of students being presented with a task to design and make a structure capable of firing a plastic ball a minimum of 3 metres and land back close to the firing point. Students also had to produce a design portfolio. Facing strong competition from other local schools and colleges, we were delighted not only to win a trophy for best portfolio but also best overall winner, a great achievement! Kimba's Visit Inspires Creativity

Amery Library hosted an exciting author visit in March – Kimba Bush - a performance poet and rapper. Kimba uses the power of words to paint pictures that capture hope, build confidence, and inspire creativity. Our students in Year 7 and 8 were thoroughly impressed by Kimba’s rapping performance, during which he wowed everyone, including the staff, with his ability to weave magic with verse. Kimba then delivered a series of bespoke poetry workshops to a select number of Year 7, 8 and 9 students. Here, he asked the students to think of things they valued, such as family, friends, pets, books, films, etc. With Kimba’s guidance, and his freestyle rapping, students produced their own verse, empowered by Kimba’s example.  View Article

Amery Hill Tops Happiest Schools Survey

  ‘The happiest secondary schools, ranked by Ofsted. Where’s yours?’ was the title of an article published on Sunday (9/3/25) by The Sunday Times*. We are delighted to see that Amery Hill School has been ranked joint top in Hampshire with three other secondary schools, with a happiness score of 95% compared to the national average score of 83%. “Achieving success in public examinations is always going to be important and something that the majority of parents will consider when choosing a secondary school for their child,” Mr Rob Jeckells, Headteacher at Amery Hill School commented, “but this survey also tells us that parents across the country are clear that academic success should not come at the expense of their child’s happiness and wellbeing.” He went on to add, "At Amery Hill School, we value the importance of both student wellbeing and academic excellence, and are proud of our reputation as a school that delivers these things within an ambitious educational setting that is exciting, enjoyable and accessible to all." *The Sunday Times analysed five years of Parent View data — surveys that parents fill out on Ofsted’s website about their children’s schools, with more than 500,000 doing so every year — to find some of the happiest in the country. The Sunday Times looked at Parent View analysis between 2020 and 2025 and chose the year in which the largest number of surveys had been completed, which tended to be the year of their Ofsted inspection. Schools with at least 500 places and with surveys completed by at least 100 parents in a single year were included in the survey. View Article
