Year 11 Prom: A Spectacular Send-Off

On a beautifully warm evening, Audleys Wood Hotel played host to Amery Hill School's Year 11 Prom. It was a truly magical occasion from start to finish, providing a fitting tribute to a group of remarkable students who have navigated their secondary education with such vibrant spirit, resilience, and determination. Despite the summer heat, our students arrived determined to celebrate in style! The red-carpet arrivals were a spectacle, with students making grand entrances in everything from tractors to sports cars, reflecting their vibrant personalities. Everyone certainly dressed to impress, and the students went to amazing lengths with their sharp suits and stunning dresses; they looked absolutely magnificent. Inside the venue, the atmosphere was simply electric. The evening was packed with special entertainment, a delicious summer buffet, moving speeches, a mind-boggling magician, a photo booth packed with props, and a much-welcomed ice cream station to keep everyone cool. The energy peaked on the dance floor, which quickly became the heart of the celebration as students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves dancing to the DJ alongside a fantastic live performance by our increasingly popular staff band. Speaking about the success of the celebration, Mr Board, Progress Leader, commented: "All the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was the perfect way to send the Year 11 students on to the next stage of their journey. You have been an amazing year group and everyone at Amery Hill wishes you all the very best in the future!" With heartfelt goodbyes, it was the perfect finale to their time at Amery Hill during an unforgettable night where lasting friendships were celebrated and cherished memories were made. Amery Hill School is incredibly proud of all that these young people have achieved, not just academically, but in how they have grown into such inspiring, well-rounded individuals. As our students now move on to their next exciting adventures, whether that is further education, apprenticeships, or embarking on unique new paths, everyone at the school wishes them the best of luck. Year 11 Prefect Team

We are incredibly proud to announce our newly appointed Year 11 Prefect Team! After a rigorous selection process, these student leaders have stepped up to represent our school community. They will be working both behind the scenes and on the front lines to mentor younger students, support school events, be involved in the local community and ensure every voice is heard. As dedicated role models, they are committed to setting the standard for excellence and kindness across the school while acting as a vital bridge between the student body and staff. BAE Systems STEM Challenge 2026

BAE Systems STEM Challenge 2026

Two teams of our Year 10 Design Technology students attended the BAE Systems STEM Challenge 2026 at the Farnborough Conference and Exhibition Centre. The challenge involved students designing and building “an off-road vehicle capable of travelling across rough terrain to deliver essential protective and emergency supplies” into an earthquake zone. The day gave students the opportunity to develop their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills under tight time constraints, using problem-solving skills just like real engineers to apply STEM knowledge in an exciting, high-stakes scenario. Once the vehicles had been designed and built, they underwent rigorous performance testing. Alongside the main challenge, students were also required to plan and deliver a Dragons' Den style presentation about their vehicle, as well as complete a mini bridge-building challenge. Both teams had an exciting, action-packed day, and we are absolutely thrilled to share that one of our teams won the Dragons’ Den Presentation Award! Comic Relief - Red Nose Day

“Let’s do something funny for money!” was the call from Mrs Lee, and we certainly achieved that, in true Amery Hill style! Staff, as usual, went above and beyond, putting themselves out there to entertain and generally ensure a lot of fun was had by all in aid of Comic Relief. There was the House Championship Disco Dance Off, a whole host of games and stalls arranged by our Student Voice Events Team, and of course, a number of staff members were slimed which is always thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, well, almost everyone! British Science Week

It’s British Science Week, and our Year 7 and 8 students have been busy diving into the sub-atomic this week! Our budding scientists swapped the naked eye for the lens, exploring the hidden wonders of the microscopic world. From mastering the perfect focus to spotting living cells in action, they are starting to see the world in a whole new way. Year 9 Students Explore the ‘Rule of Law’ with Hampshire Police

To enrich our ongoing British Values module within the Education for Life curriculum, Year 9 students were visited this week by Liam Davies of Hampshire Police. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the real-world application of the legal system. The highlight of the session saw two of our students lead a Q&A, interviewing Liam on the Rule of Law and its essential role in our society. The year group then engaged in a lively discussion, asking probing questions about policing, justice, and the law. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect their classroom learning with the real world. World Book Day

World Book Day

World Book Day Of course, the term wouldn't be complete without our annual World Book Day celebrations, and the whole school absolutely buzzed with excitement! The library was the hub of the action, hosting a brain-teasing book emoji quiz with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. We also ran popular competitions to design a bookmark and a National Book Token. A massive congratulations to Owen K - his winning bookmark design has been digitally recreated and is being printed for the library. We’ve also got our fingers tightly crossed for Scarlett C; her stunning book token design has been entered into the national competition, and we are so hopeful it wins a stash of tokens for her and Amery Hill! Iceland -The Return!

After the successful 2025 visit to Iceland 48 Year 10 Geographers and staff ventured, once again, to the self-styled land of ice and fire for 2026. Aiming to support key GCSE topics and content the students were treated to a wide range of experiences. The "Bridge across the Continents", where two major tectonic plates meet and the reason for the volcanic and earthquake activity the country is famous for. The amazing black beach at Vik with its basalt columns, caves, arches and stacks. This was also the location of the infamous destructive "sneaker" waves that have been known to wash tourists off the beach. Plus. not one, not two but three amazingly powerful waterfalls one with a drop of over 60 metres. The sheer physical power and nature of Iceland was highlighted by the storm and snow on the final full day there, when wind gusts and horizontal sleet and windchill really gave the student an experience of life in the Northern latitudes. Not all the visit was quite as challenging however, with a chance to taste tomatoes grown in greenhouses powered by lights and water from the abundant geothermal energy and the amazing 4d cinema experience of Fly Over Iceland in the capital Reykjavik. The students, as always, were amazing and represented the school brilliantly across the four jammed packed days. Thoughts have already turned to planning Iceland 2027! The recent Year 10 trip to the ‘land of fire and ice’ did not disappoint, and with such a varied itinerary, students had a fantastic experience exploring the country defined by dramatic volcanic landscapes, glaciers and waterfalls. Imaginative Islands

Imaginative Islands

This term, all of Year 7 have been taking part in our annual Island Project Competition, the exciting culmination of an experiential learning unit that explores how religions begin, evolve, and sometimes fade over time. The project is built around an imaginative scenario: humanity has been stranded on a deserted island and must rebuild life from scratch. Throughout the unit, students have investigated how early communities form beliefs, develop rituals, create places of worship, and establish shared values. They then explored how, over hundreds of years, these practices might change - splitting into different denominations, giving rise to new traditions, or even disappearing altogether. Using this framework, students were challenged to think 1,000 years into the future and imagine how their island society would grow, what might remain important to its people, and which customs could be lost or forgotten with time. The creativity shown this year has been outstanding. Students have produced imaginative designs, detailed maps, symbolic artefacts, and thoughtful accounts of their island communities’ histories and belief systems. Every entry demonstrates impressive critical thinking and creativity, making it incredibly difficult to choose an overall winner. The winning project will earn points for the student’s House - though with such strong work across the year group, the judges certainly have a tough decision ahead! View Article
